Professional experience
Inspired by a passion for creative industries and social mobility, David has established himself as a totemic figure in the field of start-up investment. For over 20 years, he has worked with artists, fashion designers, chefs and stars of the entertainment and media sector. As Forbes once said of him, “David is in the business of creativity.”
With his background as a media and entertainment lawyer, he learnt to buy and sell intellectual property and parlayed that skill into a business he sold to Mishcon de Reya before founding a media company which was eventually sold to Dreamworks.
Having achieved at the highest level in these fields, his move to bridge the gap between the creative industries and investment was a natural one and led to the foundation of Edge VC. This in turn has produced numerous successful collaborations with media and tech firms operating in some of the most exciting areas of the creative economy.
Working with the British Business Bank, Edge has secured two separate funds – £40m in 2015 and £85m in 2021 – the first of which has been fully invested in a portfolio of creative businesses. These have all followed Edge’s innovative investment template of identifying talent, backing it and helping it progress to the next level. Creative, informed, decisive and driven to succeed, David embodies Edge’s core values.
