Professional experience

John is perhaps best known to date for his pivotal role in delivering a four-fold increase in profits during his time as CEO of BBC Worldwide. This considerable achievement only tells part of his story, however, as he has found success well beyond the realms of the Beeb. With a background in accountancy, John began in the fast-track leadership development programme at British Railways Group after which, he was closely involved in the wholesale restructuring of the Group.

In 1989 he began his long, fruitful association with the BBC, first as Group Finance Director, then COO, where his remit ran from negotiating programme rights to redevelopment of the corporation’s extensive property portfolio. After 7 years as CEO at BBC Worldwide, John joined Burberry PLC as COO and spent 8 years on their Board. During his career he has been Chairman of several companies including UKTV and has been a Director of several arts organisations including BAFTA and the Royal Television Society. His partnership with Edge has seen him involved with social media giant, Jungle Creations and the ground-breaking, immersive VR start-up, Dream Corporation.
