Tanit Koch

Seeking to work as a journalist from an early age on, Tanit has excelled in a variety of high-profile positions, giving her profound authority on European media.

  • Columnist and investor, The New European
  • Editor-in-chief of Bild, Europe’s largest newspaper
  • Editor-in-chief of German integrated newsroom, RTL
  • Managing editor of German news channel n-tv
  • Ran comms for CDU candidate Armin Laschet in 2021 election

Professional experience

Tanit’s career, which spans a range of media, countries and languages, speaks to both her strong communication skills and mastery of digital technology. Personifying the British daily for which she writes a regular column, she is very much a New European, having been born in Germany, educated in Ireland, Spain and France, not to mention having done work experience at The Sun. She has recently been asked to serve as an independent curator for Google’s Newsgeist EMEA 2023 un-conference, an event focussed on the future of news.

Her most high-profile role to date has been as editor-in-chief of the German tabloid, Bild, which capped a remarkable 10-year rise from trainee to top spot as well as making her the first female to occupy the position. She also oversaw the digital transformation process at commercial broadcaster RTL. Her versatility and networking skills saw her hired as spin doctor for Armin Laschet, as he sought to replace Angela Merkel as German chancellor. This connectivity and experience make her ideal for her role in Edge, where she advises across a range of media issues.

Beyond the office

As well as being a member of the Transatlantic Commission on Election Integrity, Tanit has also been involved in podcasts for the German Friends of Yad Vashem, the World Holocaust Remembrance Centre. She is a reasonable tennis player, mediocre guitar player & aspiring farmer.
