Professional experience
Stuart graduated from Manchester University with a degree in Economics and Accounting which led to his first job in a traditional accountancy firm. However, the siren call of the City soon saw him find work as an analyst at commodities trader Phibro-Salomon. The early 90’s financial slump put paid to the department and his job, and Stuart moved to a firm of insurance brokers, progressing to become the firm’s financial controller.
In 2002, he moved to ratings agency, A.M. Best as Financial Controller later fulfilling a similar role at DBRS Ratings, prior to joining Edge in 2008.
While Edge’s day-to-day business as venture capitalists is taking calculated risks in choosing the right companies to invest in, Stuart acts as a counterbalance and his role is to guarantee the company’s financial stability and probity while always minimising risk. His background has been perfect for this and his success in helping to navigate the company through 15 years of change and evolution is testament to his commensurate skill as a Financial Controller.
