Edge VC Co-Hosts MyWorld Investor Tour with British Business Bank

Edge VC and the British Business Bank recently co-hosted a focused investor tour of MyWorld, one of the UK’s flagship programmes at the intersection of creative industries and advanced technology.
Backed by UKRI’s Strength in Places Fund, MyWorld unites 13 world-leading partners across academia and industry in a five-year R&D programme centred on Bristol and Bath. The programme is establishing Bristol as a global centre for creative tech innovation, spanning virtual production, AI-driven content, immersive media, and performance capture.
Bristol’s creative-technology cluster employs around 30,000 people across nearly 6,000 businesses, generating over £1.7bn in GVA. The city is a UNESCO City of Film and one of only two cities outside London ranked in the top ten for both creative and high-tech clusters.
The investor tour featured four SMEs operating at the intersection of creativity and technology:
• Black Laboratory – Proprietary performance capture backed by Nvidia and Epic Games
• Black Goblin – AI-driven sound design and post-production tools
• MARS Volume / Academy – Virtual production and training infrastructure
• Meaning Machine – Award-winning AI tooling for game development
Attendees toured state-of-the-art facilities including virtual production studios and a Smart Cinema with biometric audience-insight capabilities, followed by discussions with ecosystem innovators.
The creative sector is undergoing technological transformation across multiple dimensions: blurring boundaries between live and virtual experiences, AI reshaping production workflows, and immersive formats demanding new audience understanding tools. MyWorld addresses this inflection point by embedding R&D culture and accelerating commercialisation.
For investors, the programme creates a differentiated pipeline of technically sophisticated, culturally relevant companies that are globally competitive from day one—operating in-market with world-class R&D infrastructure backing.
